China is one of the world’s largest producers of active pharmaceutical ingredients and generic drugs.1 In 2021, the Chinese government established a comprehensive evaluation system that defines the value of pharmaceuticals across six dimensions, including safety, efficacy, cost-effectiveness, appropriateness, accessibility, and innovation.2 Policy-makers and clinical specialists consider six criteria and their relevant sub-criteria in assessing the overall performance of drugs.
